Anybody know where I can get a tiny version of Jayne's hat, the sort that might fit on a newborn-to-1-year-old?  I'm thinking of building a special "Firefly" Servo, and if I do it (obviously) needs to have the hat…

Amazon sells yellow ones, you could paint or dye the bottom half and pom-pom orange & red.

It's a thought, cheaper than getting someone to make me one custom.  As long as they're actually wool and not nylon, that doesn't dye so well (read: at all).

What I'd REALLY like to do eventually is have enough Servo parts on hand that I could basically do a "Build-A-Servo" thing at conventions, where I've got basic pieces and we can combine them on-site, add modifications, sell accessories…

    Oooh!  That'd be awesome!

    Well there ya go!

So… with the hat costing $22, that means I'd be charging upwards of $80 for the Servo…

Depending on the con, that wouldn't be a problem.

    What he said.

Yeah, but if I put that much time/effort into a Servo, I'm not going to want to sell it.  Like Forest.

That's when you get to a con where Mr. Baldwin will be appearing and get him to sign it.

You'll have to take it.  I couldn't.  I might swoon.  It would be… unmanly.

Not wanting to part with them can be a problem.  I haven't yet built a bot I would be willing to sell, but one I have in the works for maybe this Spring I might: Primrose Servo, a female Steampunk servo built primarily out of teacups & other china- all plastic, of course, but painted and modified to look like antique china.  I got the idea after I built & painted Reginald's engine block to look like a teacup and saucer.

I didn't even want to sell my Crow – someone literally – nearly literally, anyway – ripped it out of my hands before the convention even began.  They were like "I WANT THAT".  And I was like "It's not for sale… how much money do you have?"  and their answer was "Enough."  So it turned out it was for sale, even though it wasn't even DONE at that point.

Well you know what they say, art isn't finished, it's abandoned.  Or in your case, ripped from your grasp.

Oooooohhhhh…. I just had thought: What if we could build a Zontar lobster/HCC medication delivery system out of one of those remote controlled helicopters?  Imagine if we did Zontar as a live show with one or more of those?

There are several Jayne hat sellers on Etsy.  Shop around and ask.  Jeff's hat was from amlowi and only cost $18.

Indeed, but baby Jayne hat sellers?

  17. Lin Chambers February 1, 2013 at 9:54 pm #

Absolutely!  Message each one asking how much it would cost for a Hal-size hat.  Some are as small as 3"x3".

I don't think it'd take much to make a Jayne hat that small.  Why not ask my sister for one?

Problem with asking Jen is that Jen is in school works full time and is reliable as a hippie going to a board meeting.

    Fair point.

I'm happy to ask Jenny… and if I ask now, I may (or may not) get one done in time for next year's convention season.

I could learn to crochet. How hard could it be?
