I've come to a decision

Tuesday night, I'm going to get absolutely hammered and watch an episode of that horrible "Honey Boo Boo" show to see if, in my impaired capacity, I understand why it is popular.

Who's with me?

I can't. The amount of alcohol required to put me in a mood fit to watch that show is also the amount of alcohol needed to knock me out.

God no! My sister loves that show and quotes it all week long. I don't want to hear about it a minute more than I have to.

    You're a braver man than I, +Jim Hanson-

  5. Lauren Prewitt September 30, 2012 at 7:32 pm #

Never even heard of it. What kind of pain is this going to be?

  6. Jim Hanson September 30, 2012 at 7:41 pm #

+Lauren Prewitt It's probably for the best you've never heard of it, but… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_Comes_Honey_Boo_Boo

Never seen it myself but I'm convinced it's mostly schadenfreude, but it is pretty sick.  I mean, we're watching an ignorant, damaged, morbidly obese redneck mom slowly turn her daughter into same.  I'd say she was doing it for money and fame, which she's definitely taking full advantage of that now, but I get the feeling that she'd be doing what she's doing to her daughter whether there were cameras rolling or not.  In the end, as The Onion recently said "You know this is going to turn out very, very badly, don't you?"

  8. Jim Hanson September 30, 2012 at 8:02 pm #

    Thus the requirement of booze.

  9. Mike Dellheim September 30, 2012 at 8:40 pm #

Does it stream online? Cause I don't get TV… I'd be all for it, if only so we can record the webcam reactions and share them without any context whatsoever.

Well, if this is gonna be a thing, I'd be willing to join in as a sober control group.

  11. Jacque Hanson September 30, 2012 at 9:02 pm #

I'm game, I guess. I dunno if theres enough hammered in the world for that, though.

I was blissfully unaware and now hope the hangover is painful. ;)

Okay so the rest of us are going to sit around and watch Jim get smashed. That will actually be even more amusing.

please, for the love of all that's holy, do not do this thing!

    I want a play-by-play review. A hangout would be even better. =D

  18. Mike Dellheim October 1, 2012 at 12:31 pm #

IS it going to be available online? That's really the question that will make or break it for a lot of people here.

  19. Jacque Hanson October 1, 2012 at 12:49 pm #

I bet if he decided to watch an earlier episode he could stream it online.

  20. Jason Dunstan October 1, 2012 at 1:36 pm #

Please, never, EVER watch reality shows. You just encourage their makers. Ignore them, and hopefully they'll go away.

  21. Kai Saffron October 1, 2012 at 2:18 pm #

+Jim Hanson's taking one for the team.

  22. Jim Hanson October 1, 2012 at 2:20 pm #

I am.  And my liver is taking about 5.

  23. Mike Dellheim October 1, 2012 at 4:11 pm #

Now now +Jason Dunstan , there's a wide range of reality tv out there and some of it's not that bad… unlike this show… which is an ugly abortion of a show that was ejected from another ugly abortion that was in turn ejected from a broken-down trailer.

  24. Lin Chambers October 1, 2012 at 9:12 pm #

Dear Jim's liver and Jacque and anyone else who witnesses this,
I am so so so very sorry I introduced that to the Netflix queue. Opportunities to help Karma out via torture will be available all week since you know where I live.

Not so many years ago, America's TV programming was thus: A&E had shows with class, The Learning Channel had educational shows, and WB had Pinky & The Brain. Now, our TV shows have no class, no education, and no Brain.

I blame Obama. Or Dubya. EVERYTHING is the fault of one of those S.O.B.s, :)

In regards to the show, and how some people not only enjoy it but defend it:

  28. Mike Dellheim October 2, 2012 at 2:01 pm #

+Kai Saffron On the other hand you can make the same argument for the spectacle that used to be a public execution… as long as it's going on we might as well be entertained by it.

  29. Kai Saffron October 2, 2012 at 2:11 pm #

Actually I have argued (and often)+Mike Dellheim that most reality television is just the newest version of public executions as entertainment for the mindless manipulated masses.
Which, for me, is an argument for not watching…
But then- I'm the kind of person who in high school would turn my back to some stupid fight going on and just stare at the morbidly curious crowd and gawk at them as if they were the entertainment.

  30. Kai Saffron October 2, 2012 at 2:16 pm #

It's not that I'm offended by schadenfreude- I just happen to find it and the people who enjoy it really, really, really pathetic.

  31. Mike Dellheim October 2, 2012 at 4:28 pm #

+Kai Saffron Making the pathetic feel better about themselves by showing them something even more pathetic… yeah that's certainly a thing.

  32. Mike Dellheim October 2, 2012 at 7:24 pm #

So WHEN are you doing this??

  33. Jim Hanson October 2, 2012 at 7:44 pm #

It may not be tonight… not feeling very well.

  34. Mike Dellheim October 2, 2012 at 7:49 pm #

    So you're already drinking then…

  35. Jim Hanson October 2, 2012 at 7:49 pm #

    Not yet.

  36. Jacque Hanson October 2, 2012 at 8:38 pm #

We're having a bit of extreme parenting tonight. Our daughter is being asstastic, threw an enormous fit at dinner including spitting out food, and has been screaming non-stop for… an hour or so, ish.

  37. Mike Dellheim October 2, 2012 at 8:45 pm #

    Oh well fun times!
